HC Deb 07 June 1988 vol 134 c565W
Mr. Cran

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to ensure health authorities have adequate nursing provision to allow for mentally senile patients to be cared for separately from those recovering from physical illnesses.

Mrs. Currie

Decisions on the numbers and deployment of nursing staff are matters for local National Health Service management. Health authorities are aware of the need to provide separate services for elderly physically frail and elderly mentally ill people so that mixing of mentally alert with confused patients on the same ward is avoided as far as possible.
