To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what consultations he has had on the use of(a) Carbadox and (b) Olaquindox as an animal feed additive.

I am not authorised to consult representative organisations on the authorisation of medicinal feed additives. The following committees have been consulted at various times on one or other of these products:

  1. (a) the veterinary products committee.
  2. (b) the chief medical officers committee on mutagenicity of chemicals in food, consumer products and the environment.
  3. (c) the chief medical officers committee on carcinogenicity of chemicals in food, consumer products and the environment.
