To ask the Secretary of Slate for Transport what is the casualty rate per mile travelled, or nearest appropriate indicator, for(a) private vehicle drivers, (b) private vehicle passengers aged over 18 years, (c) private vehicle passengers aged under 18 years but over five years, (d) private vehicle passengers aged five years and under, (e) motor cyclists, (f) motor cycle pillion passengers aged over 18 years, (g) motor cycle pillion passengers aged under 18 years, (h) cyclists aged over 18 years, (i) cyclists under 18 years but over 11 years., (j) cyclists aged 11 years and under, and (k) commercial lorry drivers; and if he will make a statement.

The casualty rates for drivers and riders of pedal cycles, motor cycles, private vehicles and goods vehicles are given in the table:

Age-specific driver and rider casualty rates cannot be calculated because total annual mileage is only available by type of vehicle and cannot be subdivided by the age of the driver or rider. The total number of casualties for each of the requested road user types is as follows:
