§ Mr. Gareth WardellTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish in theOfficial Report for each health authority in Scotland the number of persons suffering from AIDS; and if he will disaggregate the statistics by age and sex.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythTo the end of April 1988, reports had been received of 56 cases of persons with AIDS in Scotland, of whom 50 were male and six were female. 26 of the males and five of the females were alive at that date. Disaggregations by age are not available. As the figures of AIDS cases and deaths for particular health board areas are, in some cases, very low, and as their publication may in consequence endanger medical confidentiality, geographical breakdowns are not published.
§ Mr. Gareth WardellTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his Department's latest estimate of the number of people in Scotland that are currently HIV positive.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythWe have not made an estimate of the number of people in Scotland who are HIV positive. Of those who have chosen to be tested for HIV antibodies, by the end of March 1988 1,436 had been found to be HIV positive.
§ Mr. Gareth WardellTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many terminations of pregnancy have occurred in Scotland because the mother is HIV positive.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythThere have been 26 terminations of pregnancy since 1985 on women who were recorded as HIV positive.
