To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of the work force have statutory protection against unfair dismissal.

Data from the spring 1986 labour force survey indicate that in March 1986 approximately 70 per cent, of the work force were covered by the unfair dismissal provisions of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978.
