To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will investigate the increasing number of reports of atrocities being perpetrated by the Ethiopian armed forces in Tigré and Eritrea provinces and modify Her Majesty's Government's trade and political relations with Ethiopia accordingly.

I regret that it is not practicable to make a thorough investigation of reports of atrocities emanating from no-go areas of Eritrea and Tigré.

If reports of atrocities proved correct, we should of course condemn such acts by any of the parties to the civil war in Ethiopia. We have consistently urged a peaceful settlement of the conflicts on all concerned.
