Mr. George

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has been spent by his Department in each of the past five years on social science research; what percentage this constitutes of total departmental expenditure and of the Department's research budget; and how much of the research has been undertaken (a) within his Department, (b) by universities and polytechnics and (c) by independent research organisations.
