To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what number and what percentage of all accidents on motorways for each of the last five years involved coaches; and how many were caused by coaches exceeding the speed limit.

The table shows the number and percentage of all accidents involving coaches on motorways for each of the last five years. The 1987 data are provisional but are unlikely to change. The accident report form used by the police does not record whether any of these coaches were exceeding the speed limit.
