To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what measures he has implemented to ensure that recruitment and promotion policy in his Department does not directly or indirectly discriminate against applicants who were mature students or women returning to work following a career break due to child care.

As an equal opportunities employer, the Treasury issues guidance on codes of practice to be followed by those who sit on selection and promotion boards. Under internal promotions procedure, every effort is made to include at least one female board member.
