HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 c780W
Mr. Hannam

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if decisions have yet been reached on the allocation of funding for publicity to improve donor supply from the £250,000 central budget announced on 3 June.

Mrs. Currie

We anticipate that funds in 1988–89 will be allocated in roughly equal proportions between publicity directed towards the general public and material aimed at relevant hospital staff. Officials are consulting interested parties about the specific projects which should be funded; decisions have not yet been taken on all items of expenditure. The level of donated organs continues to run well above 1987 levels.

Mr. Hannam

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is ready to produce guidelines to regional health authorities for the identification of potential organ donors and the setting up of an audit of brain stem dead patients, as recommended by the Royal College of Physicians working party on donor supply.

Mrs. Currie

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to him on 26 July.
