HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 cc780-1W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the remit, membership and timetable of his Department's working group on nurse prescribing; and what work it has carried out since its establishment.

Mrs. Currie

The group will advise the Secretary of State for Health, after consultation with the Standing Medical Advisory Committee, the Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee and the Standing Pharmaceutical Advisory Committee, on the professional and ethical issues of prescribing by nurses. It is chaired by Dr. June M. Crown of Bloomsbury health authority and contains a representative of the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing and Midwifery and two representatives of each of the professional standing advisory committees mentioned above.

The group met for the first time on 19 July to discuss its terms of reference, methods of working and information needs. It will meet again on 7 September and thereafter at monthly intervals. It will report to my right hon. and learned Friend by 1 June 1989.
