HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 c758W
Mr. Lofthouse

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will order an inquiry into the incidence of suicides at Leeds prison since June 1987.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The prison department undertakes inquiries into all inmate suicides in order to try to prevent future deaths, and coroners' inquests are held on all deaths of prisoners. We do not think that there are any grounds for setting up a formal inquiry into suicides at Her Majesty's prison, Leeds.
