HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 c745W
Mr. Chapman

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the Government's intentions on implementing the remainder of the Keith committee's recommendations on the Inland Revenue's powers.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The Keith committee made wide-ranging recommendations for the modernisation of the Inland Revenue's administrative powers. Proposals in response to the recommendations were published in 1986 in the form of a consultative document, on which comments were invited. In the last two Budgets, and in the light of comments received, we have brought forward measures which give effect to some of these proposals.

The Revenue is today, with my approval, issuing a further consultative paper which contains new and revised proposals on the remaining issues, again taking account of representations received.
