HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 cc797-8W
Mr. Ken Hargreaves

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the total amount paid in lieu of rates for hospital and health centre buildings by Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley district health authority for the years 1985–86, 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1988–89.

Mrs. Currie

[holding answer 27 July 1988]: The readily available information is as follows. Totals include expenditure on research by non-departmental public bodies funded by the Department.

Mrs. Currie

The annual accounts of the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley health authority record total expenditure on contributions in lieu of rates as follows:

£
1985–86 549,647
1986–87 620,864
11987–88 457,555
1Provisional (ie unaudited) figure.

The reduced expenditure for 1987–88 largely reflects the transfer of administrative responsibility for the Brockhall hospital to the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale health authority from 1 April 1987

For further information and expected expenditure in 1988–89 (which is not collected in-year) my hon. Friend may wish to contact the chairman of the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley health authority.
