To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what correspondence he has received from the chairman of the Greater Manchester passenger transport authority in connection with the statement concerning planned expenditure made by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the noble Lord Brabazon of Tara, in the House of Lords on 30 June,Official Report, columns 1809–1813; what reply he intends to give; and if he will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give details of the(a) existing and (b) proposed procedures for the transportation of nuclear waste in Greater Manchester; and if he will make a statement.

Movements of all radioactive materials, in Greater Manchester as elsewhere, must comply with stringent international safety regulations. These ensure that the design of the containers prevents any radiation risk even in the event of a severe accident.
