HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 cc641-2W
Ms. Richardson

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what measures he has implemented to ensure that recruitment and promotion policy in his Department does not directly or indirectly discriminate against applicants who were mature students or women returning to work following a career-break due to child care.

Mr. Forth

The DTI's policy statement on equal opportunities, which was issued in 1984 in agreement with the Department trades unions and which takes account of the code of practice issued under the Equal Opportunities Act 1975, has been placed in the Library of both Houses. All DTI staff serving on recruitment and promotion duties are particularly briefed to guard against any form of direct or indirect discrimination in any circumstance.
