§ Mr. CorbynTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further representations have been made to the Government of Chile concerning(a) violations of human rights and (b) the safety of people returning from exile.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe continue to make frequent representations, both at ministerial and official level, to the Chilean Government to improve their poor human rights record. As my hon. Friend the Member for Enfield North (Mr. Eggar) made clear in his reply of 7 June to the hon. Member, we do not believe that returning exiles are in any greater physical danger than others in Chile.
§ Mr. CorbynTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if Her Majesty's Government's representatives in Chile have had meetings with Claudimoro Almeida; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerNo member of our embassy in Santiago has had meetings with Mr. Almeyda. I refer the hon. Member to my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State's replies of 8 June to the hon. Members for Warrington, North (Mr. Hoyle), for Liverpool, West Derby (Mr. Wareing) and for Cynon Valley (Mrs. Clwyd).
