Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations were made to the President of Turkey during his recent state visit, regarding Cypriots who went missing following the Turkish invasion of northern Cyprus in 1974; and if he will make a statement.

None. We believe that this matter is best dealt with by the intercommunal committee set up for the purpose under United Nations General Assembly resolution No. 32/128.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations were made to the President of Turkey regarding human rights in Turkey during the recent state visit; and if he will make a statement.

During President Evren's recent state visit, my right hon. and learned Friend raised the subject of human rights with the Turkish Foreign Minister, and expressed the hope that the progress made in this field in Turkey in recent years would continue.
