To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster when the repeal of the Trade Descriptions Act 1972 and the successor arrangements will come into force.

Mr. Forth

I have today laid before Parliament a draft order to bring into force section 48(2)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1987, which repeals the Trade Descriptions Act 1972. Subject to parliamentary approval, the repeal of the 1972 Act will come into force on 31 December 1988.
