To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the effect upon tourism of the completion of the European market in 1992.

Mr. Lee

The completion of the European single Markey in 1992 is likely to have a significant impact on tourism. Increased liberalisation of intra-Community transport will present great opportunities for travel between member states. The removal of internal barriers should encourage United Kingdom operators to expand into the European market as well as European companies to operate in the United Kingdom. This should further stimulate tourism within the Community.
