HC Deb 28 July 1988 vol 138 c565W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will extend the provision of central heating in respect of handicapped adaptations from those who are totally immobile to those in the severely handicapped categories; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

The Northern Ireland Housing Executive can make house renovation grants to all disabled people to help meet the cost of any necessary adaptations to their homes. Such grants are made only following assessment of the needs of each disabled person by professional staff of health and social services boards.

If professional staff recommend that adaptations, including modification of existing heating systems or the installation of alternative systems, are necessary, grants are made available.
