HC Deb 28 July 1988 vol 138 c433W
Mr. Janner

To ask the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will now update policy statements on equal opportunities issued in 1984.

Mr. Luce

I see no need to update policy statements at this stage.

Mr. Janner

To ask the Minister for the Civil Service what practical evidence there is in his Department of the increase in awareness at all levels of potential problems of equal opportunity and of the willingness to overcome them resulting from the policy statements issued in 1984.

Mr. Luce

By the increased understanding shown by staff at all levels when these matters are raised and discussed and the more ready acceptance of adaptations to working practices such as part-time working.

Mr. Janner

To ask the Minister for the Civil Service by what methods his Department is constantly looking for ways to develop and improve its equal opportunities programme.

Mr. Luce

By reference to examples of best practice and other published information, by attendance at seminars involving both public and private sector organisations, and by discussion and consultations within the Department.

Mr. Janner

To ask the Minister for the Civil Service who is carrying out current initiatives to develop and improve his Department's equal opportunities programme in connection with alternative working patterns and recruitment reviews, respectively.

Mr. Luce

The Cabinet Office personnel services branches.
