§ Mr. FrenchTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement regarding the purposes of the ethnic survey questionnaire sent to Customs and Excise staff for completion.
§ Mr. Lilley[holding answer 26 July 1988]: The ethnic survey questionnaires issued to staff in Customs and Excise will provide the Department with statistical information about the number, grade and location of employees from ethnic minorities. The information will be used in monitoring the career progression of these staff to ensure they receive equality of treatment in respect of training, promotion and allocation to duties.
