HC Deb 28 July 1988 vol 138 c553W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services when he plans to publish the social services inspectorate survey of child protection services in London; and if he will distribute copies to all London hon. Members.

Mrs. Currie

[holding answer 25 July 1988]: I am today placing copies of the report in the Library. The report was discussed with London directors at a meeting on 18 July. They are now examining the report and will be taking action locally where needed. Some directors, however, reported a continuing rise in the numbers of registrations of child abuse and it may therefore take some time before there is a satisfactory resolution of the problem of unallocated cases. The inspectorate will continue to monitor progress and to work with boroughs with the worst problem.

I am also placing in the Library copies of the report by the social services inspectors on child protection services in Haringey. That report makes recommendations and puts forward a sensible action plan to tackle the serious problems it identifies. These can all be implemented within the resources available to Haringey. The council has already reported to me on the work that it has in hand to implement the key recommendations of the report.
