HC Deb 27 July 1988 vol 138 cc283-4W
Mr. Ingram

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if the experimental nuclear reactor at the National Engineering Laboratory, East Kilbride will remain on Crown property following the privatisation of the laboratory.

Mr. Forth

The position of the land on which the experimental nuclear reactor is built will be determined by an agreement that is signed between the Department and a purchaser of the East Kilbride site.

Mr. Ingram

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster who will have the responsibility for decommissioning the experimental nuclear reactor on site at the National Engineering Laboratory, East Kilbride; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Forth

The responsibility for any decommissioning of the reactor would lie with the operator, taking account of any requirement of the relevant regulatory bodies, namely the Scottish Development Department and the nuclear installations inspectorate.
