§ 92. Mr. CouchmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has made of how many jobs have been secured directly and indirectly in the shipbuilding industry by orders for ships for the Royal Navy in the last 12 months.
§ Mr. SainsburyOrders placed in the last 12 months for three Duke class type 23 frigates, one auxiliary oiler replenishment vessel and four Sandown class single role minehunters (together with some other minor contracts) are estimated to have secured an average of 13,000 to 14,000 jobs directly and indirectly over the next four years or so. The order for a Vanguard class SSBN placed this year will secure jobs for about 5,000 over a similar period.
