Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland which categories of hospitalised war veterans he proposes to exempt from payment of poll tax in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

War veterans who are solely or mainly resident as patients in a hospital, residential care home, nursing home or hostel as defined in paragraphs 8 and 9 of schedule 1A to the Abolition of Domestic Rates Etc. (Scotland) Act 1987, proposed to be inserted by paragraph 34 of schedule 12 to the Local Government Finance Bill, will be exempt from personal community charge liability.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those salmon fishings which in the current financial year are liable for non-domestic rates, as a result of being within existing district salmon board areas and separately entered in the valuation roll, and which will cease to be so liable as a result of the Local Government Finance Bill; and if he will state the current rateable value of each such fishing.
