HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 cc166-7W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport on what date his Department received London fire brigade inspection reports on the London Underground deep underground stations in 1987 and in each of the preceding five years.

Mr. Portillo

[holding answer 25 July 1988]: None was received in 1987. The last report received from the London fire brigade of one of its inspections of London Underground stations was dated 10 May 1983 and was received on 16 May 1983. After that date the system of reporting the results of fire inspections changed and reports were no longer sent to the railway inspectorate. London Underground Limited took on the task of recording the results of fire inspections. It did not initially adopt the practice of sending copies of its own reports to the railway inspectorate. Subsequently, as part of its investigations into the fire at Green Park, the inspectorate asked that the fire reports should again be sent to it. Those for the intervening period were received in bulk and thereafter as each report arises.
