Mr. Lee

[holding answer 22 July 1988]: Following is the available information. On 9 June 1988 the number of unemployed claimants in the Coventry local authority district was 17,572. At Coventry jobcentre, which covers an area nearly corresponding to Coventry local authority district, the level of unfilled vacancies, excluding community programme vacancies, registered on 3 June 1988 was 595, of which 420 were full-time and 175 part-time. The numbers of vacancies on Government training programmes registered at the jobcentre on the same date were 486 community programme places, of which 98 were full-time and 388 part-time. In addition, there were three voluntary project programme places and 18 job training scheme places.

At Coventry careers office there were 132 unfilled vacancies registered on 3 June 1988; these are not separately identified as full-time and part-time vacancies. Also some of these vacancies could have been notified to a jobcentre as well as a careers office.

In the Coventry local authority district the number of YTS places planned for first and single year trainees in the current financial year is 2,436, of which 1,069 were unfilled on 3 June 1988.
