To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the names of persons and organisations invited to his office to mark the Royal Assent being given to the Immigration Act 1988; if he will list the names of persons and organisations who declined his invitation; and at what he estimates the cost of the hospitality provided on this occasion.

Mr. Hurd

As in the past, I have invited the Chairman and members of the Standing Committee and officials closely involved in the Bill to attend a small party to mark its completion. Eighteen hon. Members and 21 officials have been invited. Acceptances have been received from eight hon. Members and from 15 officials. I expect the cost to be about £20.
