HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 c237W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has any information regarding the number of people on housing association waiting lists in each local authority area in Devon and Cornwall.

Mr. Ridley

This information is not collected by my Department.

Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the projected building of council accommodation over the next five years in each local authority in Devon and Cornwall.

Mr. Ridley

The only projections centrally available at present are the figures of starts and completions for the years up to 1989/90 provided by the authorities in their 1987 housing investment programme HIP2 returns; these are available in the Library.

Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will list the total number of people currently on the council housing waiting lists of each district authority in Devon and Cornwall;

(2) if he will list the total number of empty council housing units in each local authority area in Devon and Cornwall, dividing housing into houses, flats and caravans;

(3) if he will list the total stock of council accommodation currently owned by each district authority in Devon and Cornwall dividing the accommodation into houses, flats and caravans.

Mr. Ridley

The latest available information on the number of households on waiting lists for council housing is for April 1987 and was provided by local authorities in their 1987 housing investment programme returns; the figures appear in column B51 in the "HIP1 All items print", which is available in the Library. Local authorities' criteria for inclusion of names on the waiting lists are not uniform and the frequency of reviewing the lists varies.

The numbers of dwellings owned by each authority in Cornwall and Devon and, of these, the numbers vacant, including any awaiting demolition, appear in columns A11 and A81, respectively, of the same document.

The numbers of houses, flats and bungalows built for each authority with one, two or three bedrooms but not four-bedroomed or other dwellings, appear in "Housing Rents Statistics at April 1987", published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, which is also available in the Library.

Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the number of council houses and flats that have been built per year in each local authority in Devon and Cornwall since 1979.

Mr. Ridley

I shall write to the hon. Member.
