HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 c188W
Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, pursuant to his answer of 19 July, the guidelines for housing standards set by the Executive Council of the Falkland Islands have been met in the case of migrant workers and others; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

The vast majority of expatriate contract workers on the Falkland Islands, who come mainly from Britain and St. Helena, are housed at Mount Pleasant airport in permanent buildings which conform to the building guidelines adopted by the Falkland Islands Government.

Most of those housed elsewhere in the islands live in modular structures—for example, Portakabins—purchased from the Ministry of Defence and which conform broadly to British standards.
