HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 cc207-8W
Mr. Thorne

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will set out his plans for emergency medical care in time of war—or national emergency; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

The Department has recently issued revised civil defence planning guidance to the National Health Service. It replaces the existing guidance issued in 1977 and takes account of changes in the Governments planning assumptions and in management and structure within the NHS.

The guidance is designed to assist health authorities and others to plan the various phases of putting the NHS on a crisis footing in the event of war, however unlikely that may be. A copy has been placed in the Library.
