HC Deb 25 July 1988 vol 138 c54W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is his estimate of the fiscal resources which would be required by local authorities in order that all Winget-type houses purchased from council stocks and presently in private ownership could be repurchased at current market prices under the Housing Defects Act 1984;

(2) what information he has on the total current market value of Winget-type houses purchased from local authorities and currently privately owned.

Mrs. Roe

Local authorities in England have reported 175 Winget properties in private ownership. The current market values of these properties will depend, among other things, on their location and condition. It is not therefore possible to estimate reliably the total market value of these houses, nor the costs of their repurchase at 95 per cent. of defect free value, as the housing defects legislation provides.
