HC Deb 25 July 1988 vol 138 c133W
Mr. Wareing

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has had for financial assistance to be granted to the Council for Involuntary Tranquilliser Addiction on Merseyside; what his response has been; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

Section 64 grants are essentially for organisations providing a national resource, rather than for direct client services. The latter are generally best provided and funded locally. The Council for Involuntary Tranquilliser Addiction submitted an application for funding on 30 June. The Department is considering this application along with other candidates for grants, and we shall let the council have a decision as soon as possible.
