To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the cost of supplementary benefit single payments for each of his Department's local offices in the county of Cleveland in May 1985, May 1986 and May 1988; and if he will make a statement.

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Sedgefield (Mr. Blair) on 21 July. The additional figures requested for the month of May 1988 are given in the table. The local offices shown are those situated in Cleveland but office and county boundaries are not conterminous. The figures shown are provisional and subject to amendment.
