To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will give the number of voluntary, private and local authority residential care homes for elderly people in Northern Ireland; and, in each case, what is the total number of places available.

At 31 December 1986, the latest date for which figures are available, the position was as follows:

¹ In Northern Ireland local aulhorities have no responsibility for statutory residential homes: these are provided and operated by the four Health and Social Services Boards.
