§ Mr. David MitchellSpent nuclear fuel will be moved from Torness power station to Sellafield in strict accordance with national and international regulations which require the design of the flask to be able to withstand severe accident conditions without radiation risk. The Department is responsible for ensuring compliance with the regulations, but this does not involve controls over the routeing or frequency of consignments because safety is provided by the strength of the container.
