To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if, in respect of the application he has received, from the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company, for consents under section 7 of the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Act 1988, he will state (i) the date of the application, (ii) its nature, and (iii) whether it was accompanied by appropriate information as required under article 5 of European Community Directive 85/337 on environmental assessment.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State received the company's application for consent to the first stage of reclamation for the extension of the port on 3 June 1988. This gave particulars about the matters set out in section 7(2) of the Act. He gave his consent on 12 July. The directive on environmental assessment does not apply to projects which have been specifically approved by Parliament.
