To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the proportion of all National Health Service prescriptions written by dispensing doctors; and what proportion of all National Health Service doctors' lists the patients on dispensing doctors' lists represent.

In 1986 a total of 6 per cent. of National Health Service prescriptions in England were written and dispensed by dispensing doctors for patients on their dispensing lists. In the same year 6 per cent. of all National Health Service patients in England were patients on dispensing doctors' lists for whom those doctors can dispense.
