HC Deb 25 July 1988 vol 138 c97W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action is being considered by his Department for the coastal protection of Spurn Point; what assessment he has made of the consequences for Humberside and Lincolnshire in the event of the peninsula being swept away; whether he is considering a long-term strategy for the defence of Spurn Point; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

The Ministry has agreed to grant aid a study of this area, which is currently under consideration by Holderness borough council (the coastal protection authority for Spurn peninsula). Any assessment of the consequences of a breach, and any long-term strategy, would be dependent upon the outcome of this study.
