HC Deb 25 July 1988 vol 138 cc13-4W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will increase the case allocation to the Welsh Development Agency for the construction of more advance factories throughout Wales and specifically at sites on Deeside, Clwyd; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Walker

In January this year I announced a 40 per cent. increase in the Welsh Development Agency's factory building budget for 1988–89 and a target for new industrial floor-space of 1½ million sq ft, nearly 75 per cent. higher than the area completed in 1987–88.

In March, I agreed to the Welsh Development Agency making a start on an additional 200,000 sq ft of property in 1988–89, and to its planning and designing a further Community on forestry does not indentify projects to protect rainforests. I indicated on 9 May in my reply to the hon. Member for Southwark and Bermondsey (Mr. Hughes), at column 9, the level of forestry support under the European Development Fund. We are also aware of a project financed from the Community Budget to establish an Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional research centre in Malaysia to improve wood processing and thereby relieve pressures on forests.
