HC Deb 22 July 1988 vol 137 cc883-4W
Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps will be taken to ensure that in cases where, as a result of the chief commissioner's finding in decision CSB/783/1987 that the term "adult" means aged 18 years or over, it appears that supplementary benefit may have been underpaid or single payments for washing machines wrongly refused, the relevant decisions are reviewed and the appropriate payments made, including transitional additions to income support.

Mr. Portillo

The implications of the decision, which was made on 10 June 1988, are currently under consideration by the office of the chief adjudication officer. I cannot at this point say whether and, if so, when, the guidance of the chief adjudication officer will be amended.
