§ Mr. Newton[holding answer 28 March 1988]: Schedules of the projects funded from the £30 million waiting list fund in the current financial year have been placed in the Library. The projects listed in the table involve some use of the independent sector. The cost of these projects will be £2.46 million. No part of the waiting list fund was earmarked for any particular type of project.
Health authorities were asked, when formulating their programmes, to concentrate on tackling excessive waiting, particularly for serious or disabling conditions, and, in doing so, to look at all available sources of health care, including use of spare capacity in other health authorities, service hospitals or the independent sector. Selection and funding of individual district projects was the responsibility of regional health authorities.
