To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the proportion of patients with terminal kidney disease treated by(a) transplant and (b) dialysis; and what are the comparable figures in other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and European Economic Community countries.

Information on the number of patients treated by kidney transplants and dialysis in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries listed has been provided by the European Dialysis and Transplant Association. The figures, which relate to the position on 31 December 1986, are as follows:
