HC Deb 22 July 1988 vol 137 c857W
Mr. Cran

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what action has been taken since the Office of Fair Trading report, in February 1987, to deal with problems arising out of the operation of the Estate Agents Act.

Mr. Butcher

The major problem identified by the Office of Fair Trading in the course of its monitoring of the Estate Agents Act has been section 18 of the Act, on which I continue to await with interest the outcome of legal proceedings between the office and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

I shall consider the other issues identified by the OFT in the light of discussions which I am currently having with the major estate agency bodies.
