HC Deb 22 July 1988 vol 137 c872W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will take steps to ensure that the Gatewen Department of Transport training centre, Llay, Wrexham is given sufficient driving test appointments for its trainees; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Gatewen Training Ltd. has applied for block booking facilities for its trainees taking HGV driving tests at the Department's Wrexham test centre. The north-western traffic area office is making arrangements to meet Gatewen Training Ltd.'s requirements.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many examiners were in post at Gatewen training in 1980; what is the total currently; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Gatewen Training Ltd. is a private HGV driver training organisation which presents trainees for driving tests at the Department of Transport's Wrexham test centre. The Wrexham test centre is now—and was in 1980—staffed by one examiner, who also occasionally conducts tests at Caernarfon. Additional examiners are made available from time to time as necessary to meet demand.
