HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 cc717-8W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the policy of the Inland Revenue with regard to communicating with individuals in Wales who wish to carry out their correspondence with its offices through the medium of the Welsh language.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 20 July 1988]: The Inland Revenue's policy is that inquiries written in Welsh to their tax and collection offices in Wales will receive a reply in that language. Where inquiries in Welsh are made to offices elsewhere in the United Kingdom, it would be the practice to try to provide a reply in Welsh.
