HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 cc805-6W
Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has for the promotion of tourism in Scotland in the 1990s; and what are his strategic objectives for that period.

Mr. Lang

[holding answer 22 April 1988]: The Scottish Tourist Board and the Highlands and Islands Development Board, in close co-operation with the travel trade, will continue to promote Scotland as a quality destination for holiday and business visitors in the United Kingdom and selected overseas markets. The strategy will focus on expanding the domestic market outside the main holiday season, increasing the size of the North American and European markets, and developing long-haul markets particularly Japan and Australia. Marketing plans will be reviewed annually to take account of changing market opportunities.
