§ Mr. DobsonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list for 1979, 1984 and the most recent year the numbers of staff by grade in the statistical divisions in his Department; and if he will differentiate between staff in the statistical posts and staff in administrative posts.
§ Mr. HurdThe information requested is given in the table. These figures are narrower in coverage than those given in the White Paper on Government statistical services published in 1981 (Cmnd. 8236, page 4) which included some staff in other parts of the Home Office working on statistical projects. Also, since 1981 the responsibilities of the statistical department have been expanded and changed and the staff complement changed in consequence.
